It's All In The Detail - Our Wood Finishes

Both our Old English Painted and Rustic collections are hand made here in England by a team of experienced cabinet makers.  We also hand finish each piece in our Leicestershire workshop.

Old English Painted Furniture

To create our signature Old English Painted finish we carefully prepare the timber before applying a minimum of two coats of primer and two finishing coats of paint.

Our AC paints are formulated to provide excellent resistance to abrasion, wet and dry heat, spirit solutions and a range of household chemicals.  The VOC content of the paint meets the requirements of the Secretary Of States Guidance Note for wood coating processes (PG6/33(11) Appendix 2).

By the time an item reaches you it is also VOC free (after three days of drying and airing).  Our paints also comply with the relevant FIRA standards.

For our top surfaces and trims, most are simply finished with natural beeswax.  Beeswax nourishes the timber and enhances the beautiful, natural appearance whilst also offering protection.

Rustic Furniture

Our Rustic furniture pieces are finished in two coats of environmentally friendly water-based wood stains which have been developed from the highest quality pigments to offer deep colour and a crisp grain to the pine.

We seal in the finish with two coats of refined clear beeswax.

Our ironmongery is all hand finished to traditional methods.  The cast iron products go through a five stage finishing process to achieve an authentic finish that will age naturally over time.

Each item is manufactured from original castings or copied from original designs using traditional sand casting methods.  This beautiful finish can be easily maintained with a lightly oiled or waxed cloth.
