Opt for the shabby chic look for a timeless trend

Filed under: Shabby Chic — Laura @ 1:46 pm

If some interior design enthusiasts are to be believed, then the minimalist, modern and ultra chic look is the one to have.

But what they fail to mention, is that in a blink of an eye, this latest trend will be over and homeowners across the country will be throwing out their glass coffee tables and white leather sofas.

When it comes to decorating a home, we want our efforts to last. And that is why it is always more sensible to opt for a more timeless image that is sure to be fitting for years to come.

The shabby chic look is one that never loses its charm, elegance and sophistication and continues to impress for years and years.

And the best thing about this design style is that it is so easy to achieve. With just a few carefully placed cushions, door knobs and photo frames you can achieve the cosy shabby chic atmosphere.

You can go as far as you like with this look. From filling your lounge with shabby chic drawers and dinging tables, to carefully placing an ornate mirror on one wall, this style is highly adaptable and versatile. So don’t be sucked into the latest trend. Opt for timeless elegance and style with the shabby chic look.

Pay attention to detail with vintage knobs, hooks and pulls

Filed under: Home Accessories — Frank @ 1:58 pm

When decorating your home, you obviously prioritise large tasks such as painting walls or laying flooring but after this is done, you then need to think about the little details that will make your home unique and personal. Small items such as door and drawer knobs and coat hooks can make a lot of difference if chosen carefully; they can turn your home from a featureless, unimaginative space into a personalised and stimulating environment.

In order to do this, you should opt for vintage styles which have that sophisticated element of ‘shabby chic’:

Hooks
Hooks are available in a staggering variety of different styles and designs. They can be elegant and delicate to suit a bedroom or bathroom environment; where flower designs are incorporated with crystal, gold or ceramics for that hand-crafted vintage look, or they can be sturdy and rustic for the purpose of hanging coats in a hallway. The latter variety is the perfect way to get that ‘shabby chic’ look for your home, as they are often made from reclaimed materials such as wood which have that hard-to-find, genuinely rustic appeal.

Door and drawer knobs
Knobs for drawers and doors can be just as elegant and interesting. For drawers, delicate ceramic flowers can be used for your bedside drawers, whilst square cut glass knobs will provide that clean and stylish look for your bathroom.

Door knobs are a little different; they can be very unique and individual in order to reflect your own personal tastes. You can choose a front door knob with an intricate style in any number of materials, to make that perfect first impression on visitors.

Christmas wreaths

Filed under: Christmas at The Orchard — Laura @ 12:30 pm

I am sorry to say it, but there is only 10 weeks to go until Christmas and there are plenty of gifts to be bought, preparations to be made and food to cook in order to have a truly enjoyable Christmas.

Decorating your home for Christmas is one of the most fulfilling things to do during the festive season. Choosing your Christmas tree, hanging your ornamental lights and putting the wreath up on your front door are some of the many things you might do.

Most wreaths for your front door are now made to last for a good few years, rather than buying a fresh new one every year. Dried branches of wicker or willow are often moulded into shape, entwined with berries, other twigs and leaves or even a touch of holly to make you feel really Christmassy. Most wreaths are able to sustain most weather conditions, so even the snow and frost won’t damage it. Some wreaths are the traditionally round shape, with others shaped like hearts.

Decorating your front door with a beautiful wreath will be welcoming to all of your Christmas guests.
